Hi, I'm Bri, I am an art education major. I strive to use my art to bring attention to the beauty in pain. Whether that be physical pain, mental pain, or unseen pain.
My creative process begins with sketches and research. As long as I can remember I've always dealt with mental health. Whether that be through anxiety, depression, or taming my ADHD. That being said my art takes a hit and is inspired by the struggle, the push and pull, and the positives and negatives. My pieces bring attention to ideas of masking, listening to the small quiet voice, death, beauty in nature, and the effect of combining geometric and natural.
Looking back, what advice would you give yourself?
Take each day one at a time. When classes get overwhelming make a schedule and break down projects/assignments into bite-sized pieces.
What's your favorite A+D memory?
Late nights in the studio with friends BLASTING music.
What was your favorite A+D class? Ceramics!!! Professor Benson cultivates an atmosphere full of acceptance, creativity, and an overflow of ideas and inspiration. Over my past 4 years here ceramics has become my safe haven and a place where I can be me no matter what's going on around me.
What moment, project, and/or critique in your Art + Design career at AU has been pivotal to who you are as an artist or creator?
My advanced ceramic courses have really impacted my art. I went in knowing what I wanted to make and how to go about doing so. But like many good art classes, my ideas got flipped upside down. I started with reffing my craft to looking at the juxtaposition of organic and geometric shapes.
What's next for you?
What's next for me is to teach art to the next generation.
How do you hope your work makes an impact?
I hope my work brings attention to mental health, but also provides a connection between art and self.
