I am an Art Education major and have an immense passion for teaching Elementary aged children how to express themselves through art.

I enjoy working in a variety of mediums but mainly focus on painting and 3D mixed media work. I found my love of creating in the 3D realm after taking sculpture classes at AU. I love working with mixed media because it allows my work to reflect my chaotic and funky personality. I take inspiration from nature and mythical creatures and create almost all of my art around those topics.  I also incorporate vibrant colors, patterns, and textures into my artwork. My creative process is extensive, as I love to plan every detail of my work, creating detailed sketches, and strategically planning all of the materials to best represent my creative style.

Looking back, what advice would you give yourself?

I would have told myself to take sculpture classes sooner so that I would have had the opportunity to explore this realm even more.

What's your favorite A+D memory?

One of my favorite memories in the A+D program was creating the wearable sculpture project and seeing everyone’s sculptures as we walked across the stage wearing them!

What was your favorite A+D class?

Sculpture 2! This class and Professor Benson was phenomenal. I felt that this class helped me realize that I could have fun exploring with 3D work and introduced me to so many different mediums and experiences.

What moment, project, and/or critique in your Art + Design career at AU has been pivotal to who you are as an artist or creator?

The clay project in sculpture was a pivotal project and experience for me. I have never enjoyed using clay in the traditional ceramics sense, but getting to use this material in a way that I was able to hand build was so informative. This is still one of my favorite projects and artworks that I have created!

What's next for you?

I will acquire an art teacher position at an Elementary school in the Upstate area. I also have plans to obtain my Masters degree in Human Services Counseling.

How do you hope your work makes an impact?

I hope that my work makes an impact on the lives of the students that I teach in the future. I hope that it shows them that any material can be used to create art and that they can express themselves through the arts.

A lot of the pieces that I would like to include are rather large. Most are hanging pieces, but a few are stand alone pieces that could be displayed on a shelf or pedestal.
