To me, design is not less or more of this or that, it’s part of how I chose to live my life more curiously and fearlessly. It's a way of being. Design offers an excuse to enter into other worlds. It is an opportunity to find ways to be radically autonomous, celebrating different perspectives, memories, moments, and narratives. I see my practice as an opportunity to do good, see transformation within and around me, and worship the ultimate Creator. This comes through for me as collecting, making connections, and always looking for opportunities to learn. My creative process is completely non-linear, it lives and functions in the tension space between the possible and impossible where dreaming and relentless ideation is a requirement.
Looking back, what advice would you give yourself?
To “Trust your gut” and that “The Faith that we have is not determined by our own efforts” is some advice I've received in recent years and would give my younger self.
What's your favorite A+D memory?
Some of my favorite A+D memories include preparing for and working on the TRANSCEND exhibition and Senior Symposia with so many amazing seniors and juniors. It took a lot of effort, but seeing the finished projects and the friendships that were formed makes me incredibly proud of everyone involved.
What was your favorite A+D class? My favorite class was the History of Graphic Design. I loved that class because it showed me that design is a practice that involves responsibility and offers real meaningful change.
What moment, project, and/or critique in your Art + Design career at AU has been pivotal to who you are as an artist or creator?
The knowledge, mentorship, and support I received from my professors have been pivotal moments in my Art + Design journey at AU. Their commitment to nurturing my growth, challenging my ideas, and encouraging my creativity has greatly influenced me as a designer.
What's next for you?
Looking ahead, I am eager to embrace continuous learning and fearless curiosity. I hope to immerse myself in new environments and let those experiences shape me. I'm open to the surprises that lie ahead and eager to see where the Lord leads me. I see the road ahead as an opportunity to collect, connect, grow, and learn.
How do you hope your work makes an impact?
