Hey my name is Mary Edgar and I am a Ceramics Major at Anderson University. My artwork is inspired by the nature that is surrounding me in my daily life.

I create functional, elegant, and sophisticated everyday artwork using stoneware clay, inspired by David Hooker's sculptures and Honey Rock Camp in Wisconsin. I use animal movements and slip trailing to create intricate designs. My inspiration comes from my life at camp, where I grew up surrounded by nature. I use slip trailing to create intricate designs, such as ferns and bees, and use underglaze or colored slips to contrast wildlife. My skillful craftsmanship and years of practice result in visually striking ceramic pieces that are constantly being improved upon.

Looking back, what advice would you give yourself?

It is okay to take the leap. If you fall, you'll get back up again and try again.

What's your favorite A+D memory?

My favorite memory is watching the majority, if not all of Disney Plus in the studio during the long studio days.

What was your favorite A+D class?

Advanced Ceramics 2. It was a stacked class with multiple Advanced classes along with Ceramics 3. The community that was built in that class was something special. Everyone pushed each other to produce incredible artwork.

How do you hope your work makes an impact?

I want my artwork to be a daily reminder that God is everywhere including the small things like mugs, bowls, etc.

Give us a preview of what you're working on for the Senior Show!

I am currently working on my first sculpture made out of clay that incorporates my Chinese heritage. Also, I am producing a series of mugs, plates, and bowls. The series will consist of a technique called slip trailing. A process where various artistic components are squirted with colored clay that has been diluted.
