My favorite media to work with is clay. I love working with clay because there are so many different ways to work with it, you can create sculpture or pottery or objects. I feel like clay has endless opportunities. I enjoy creating organic shapes and letting the clay fold onto its self to create something I could never plan and sketch out on paper perfectly.

Looking back, what advice would you give yourself?

If I could have given myself any advice in the past, I would tell myself that I need to start on projects a lot sooner than I did. And I would also tell myself that I should be a bit more patient with myself; I am going to have good art days, and I am going to have bad art days. I should forgive myself for messing up on those bad days.

What's your favorite A+D memory?

My favorite memory at Anderson would be any night in the Ceramic studio when all of my Ceramic 3 people would put on a movie and talk while we worked on a project.

What was your favorite A+D class?

My favorite class at Anderson was the Ceramics 3 class by far. I loved the people and the professor in that class. I got to see so much growth in myself and my peers and we had a lot of fun just creating artwork and being together. I am so glad that I met those wonderful artists.

What moment, project, and/or critique in your Art + Design career at AU has been pivotal to who you are as an artist or creator?

In Ceramics 1 I had a project where we created a sphere and we had to create a form to hold or show off the sphere. During this project I created a big bright yellow hippopotamus to be holding the sphere in his mouth. This project showed me that I could create big sculptures and I found out that I love the process of making huge ceramic sculptures.

What's next for you?

I will hopefully start teaching art next fall and still be making ceramics.

How do you hope your work makes an impact?

I hope people look at my art and realize that ceramics is not just for the functional artwork and isn't always perfect. I believe that the imperfections is what makes art beautiful.
